Former US President Donald Trump has once again made headlines after saying the United States will acquire Greenland “whether they like it or not.” He claimed that if America does not act, powerful rivals like China or Russia could move in and take control of the Arctic island.
Trump described Greenland as extremely important for US national security. He argued that its location in the Arctic makes it a key military and economic point, especially as global powers compete for influence in the region.
However, Greenland is not for sale. The island is an autonomous territory of Denmark, and both Danish and Greenlandic leaders have clearly rejected any idea of being taken over by another country.
Experts say Trump’s statement highlights growing global competition in the Arctic rather than an actual plan to take Greenland. Still, his words have caused international debate and raised concerns among US allies.
