November 6 — Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum announced she will press charges against a man who attempted to harass her during a public appearance near the National Palace in Mexico City.
Video footage captured the disturbing moment when a man approached the president from behind as she greeted supporters on the street. The man attempted to kiss her neck and inappropriately touch her body before security intervened.
Though President Sheinbaum quickly moved away from the situation, the incident left her visibly shaken and sparked serious questions about presidential security protocols.
In a statement to the media, President Sheinbaum explained her decision to file charges: “If we don’t file a complaint when this happens to the president of the country, what message does that send to other women?”
The incident has resonated deeply with women’s rights advocates and feminist commentators, who say it exposes the deeply rooted sexism in Mexican society. “This shows that some men feel entitled to violate a woman’s personal space and dignity—even when that woman is the president,” said one activist.
